Enhancing Civil 3D Workflows with Custom Pipe Network Structures

The Challenge

SeamonWhiteside, a seasoned Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture firm, faced significant challenges in their Civil 3D workflow, especially in the design and labeling of Pipe Network Structures. Despite their expertise, their internal efforts to streamline water-related infrastructure design processes were falling short. Recognizing the need for a specialized solution, they sought external assistance to overcome these inefficiencies.

“Our Innovation Department spent a few months trying to develop a solution to support our water-related infrastructure design as a complement to our storm drainage infrastructure. All our efforts were to no avail, so we looked to ATG for a solution,” said York Dilday, PE, Digital Practice Lead – Civil. York manages SW’s AutoCAD and Civil 3D environments, designs and implements new tools and workflows, and provides technical support.

Solutions

ATG was initially introduced to SW after Kayla Stitz (ATG Regional Account Executive), visited their corporate office to showcase how ATG could support them. After discovering ATG’s consulting services, they decided to move forward with the partnership based on examples ATG built for other customers, deploying ATG’s team to create multiple Civil 3D Pipe Network Structure Parts.

York noted, “I would highly recommend ATG due to the support and responsiveness we receive from everyone on your team.” Working closely with Jose Luis Calixto (ATG Civil Technical Specialist), who brought a wealth of knowledge and presented multiple viable options, SW was able to land on a solution. “Jose presented SeamonWhiteside with a few options to solve our issue and ultimately delivered exactly what we needed,” added York.

Business Outcomes

The collaboration yielded significant improvements in SW’s Civil 3D workflow. The custom Pipe Network Structures created by ATG drastically reduced the time and effort required to transition from conceptual designs to comprehensive construction documents. This enhancement not only streamlined their processes but also ensured uniform labeling of appurtenances across plan sets, a feature highly appreciated by their designers. Within less than a year of partnership, SW experienced a significant improvement in workflow efficiency and reported high satisfaction with the project outcome.

Conclusion

SeamonWhiteside’s partnership with ATG has proven to be a significant success. The custom Pipe Network Structures delivered by ATG have significantly streamlined the firm’s water infrastructure design process, reducing the time and effort needed to translate conceptual designs into complete construction documents.

I would highly recommend ATG due to the support and responsiveness we receive from everyone on your team.
