Autodesk now offers Flex, a new pay-as-you-go option that allows users who do not use their subscription every day to use the software when they need it.
We want to make sure you pick the right option for your needs. Let’s explore the challenges you may be facing, differences between Flex vs. Subscription, the solutions that Flex provides and if Flex is a good fit for your needs.
Challenges and Solutions
The transition from multi-user to single-user (named-user) software licensing negatively affects occasional users, requiring purchase of a full, named-user license regardless of software usage. With Flex, you can overcome this challenge by only paying for what you need.
For users currently on a Multi-user subscription: Multi-user subscriptions are retiring after August 7, 2022. If you need to stay on subscription, at your next renewal before August 7, 2023, you can trade in one subscription for two subscriptions (for one named user each) at a cost consistent with what you pay today. Your Challenge
“I don’t want to waste money on a subscription for users who only need access 1 or 2 days a week.”
Flex Solution
Optimize costs and only pay for what you use.
“It’s time consuming to add + manage new users or products when my project demands them quickly.”
Increase productivity with faster procurement and less time spent on administration.
“I want to try specialized products for different stages in the design process, but it’s too expensive for me.”
Lower risk when you want to try the right product at every stage of the design process.

Flex vs. Subscription
There are some factors to consider when choosing between a named-user subscription and Flex, including how often users access software, length of term, product access and more.
Subscription
For frequent users who access and use software 8 or more days per month.
Flex
For occasional users who only access and use software 2 days or less per week.
Monthly, yearly and 3-years terms available.
Tokens expire after one year; buy more tokens as needed.
Buy subscriptions to specific products or industry collections.
Buy tokens to access a wide range of top products.
Standard and Premium plans available for both options.
How Flex works
Step 1:
Buy tokens for your team.
Step 2:
Assign users to Flex in your Autodesk Account.
Step 3:
Use tokens when a Flex user opens a product.
Step 4:
Track token use and spending.
Getting started with Flex is simple. You can estimate the amount of tokens you need based on your usage data and give your users access to all the product included with Flex or a subset, it’s up to you.
Tokens are charged when the user opens the product, and they can use that product for 24 hours before they are charged again. You can track token usage and spending in the reporting section of your account. Keep in mind that tokens expire after one year and do not roll over, so monitor usage and make sure you’re using what you have efficiently.
