How Proactive BIM Support from an ATG Expert Helped Enterprise Electrical Stay Ahead

The Challenge

Enterprise Electrical Contractors needed BIM coordination support on the Norwalk Hospital Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit project.

The coordination study involved multiple trades and extended over three to four months largely due to ductwork coordination with other parties, creating scheduling pressure for the electrical team to get their scope completed and move on.

Enterprise Electrical Contractors wanted to complete electrical coordination modeling for the Norwalk Hospital Inpatient BHU, including conduit, cable tray, light fixtures, panels, and equipment at LOD 350, and to do so efficiently enough that Enterprise could wrap their scope and progress to other parts of the job without being held up by other trades.

Solutions

Jared Edgin led the engagement, handling full electrical coordination modeling within the Inpatient BHU, attending coordination meetings, and delivering coordination drawings and NWC exports throughout the process.

Two change orders were executed during the engagement to accommodate additional conduit rerouting and scope additions requested by the client.

Business Outcomes

Enterprise was able to get their conduit runs in, complete their scope, and move on to other parts of the job ahead of other trades.

As of the closeout call, ductwork and sprinkler fitup from other parties was still not fully installed, but Enterprise had already wrapped their electrical coordination and moved forward.

David specifically noted that Jared’s strong communication took the burden off the team in a way that does not always happen on coordination projects.

Jared was on top of it the entire time and took a lot of the communication burden away from our team. We were able to get our conduit runs in, wrap up our scope, and move on while other trades were still working through their coordination. That is exactly what good BIM support looks like.
