With the Autodesk transition to named user well under way, many government agencies and commercial clients with tight security policies have asked about the internet security and permissions requirements to use Autodesk single-user subscription software. This article provides a list of requirements that every IT manager who maintains Autodesk single-user subscriptions should be aware of to avoid licensing errors and ensure there is no down time.

Basic Requirements for Everyone

  • Add & Assign the end user in the contract manager’s Autodesk account management portal
  • Install all licensing and single sign on component updates pertaining to the releases that are being used, which can be found on the “product updates” page in the assigned user’s Autodesk account

Allow user accounts “full control” over these Registry Entries:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\AUTODESK
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\AUTODESK

Allow user accounts “full control” over these Folders:

  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk
  • C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet
  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk (or wherever AutoCAD was installed)
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared
  • C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk
  • C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Autodesk
  • C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk
  • C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Temp (or wherever they have their temp directory)
  • All locations where your files are stored and accessed

Antivirus Exceptions

Even if you do not use a proxy server, you should still add the following exceptions. If the computer connects to the Internet through a firewall, ensure that the proxy is configured to allow unrestricted and anonymous access to the following URLs. The default port number for HTTP is 80 and for HTTPS is 443.

  • *.google-analytics.com
  • *.cloudfront.net
  • *.virtualearth.net
  • *.autocadws.com
  • *.newrelic.com
  • *.akamaiedge.net
  • *.amazonaws.com
  • *.s3.amazon.com
  • *.edgekey.net

  • *.autodesk360.com
  • *.skyscraper.autodesk.com
  • *.ssl.google-analytics.com
  • *.js-agent.newrelic.com
  • *.hotjar.com
  • *.optimizely.com
  • jsdelivr.net

Important:

  • Make sure TLS 1.2 is enabled.
  • Install Transport Layer Security (TLS): Updates Required to Maintain Software Access
  • Certificate verification sites are all using HTTP but not HTTPS, please note the protocol for the sites when adding to the whitelist.
